The sign industry recommended, at the time of this research, that there was no intent or excuse to waste power, but everone needed a wake-up awareness call to key in on careless use.

To help conserve power, the ISA recommends a few simple precautions.

1.  Do not leave sign lights on during daytime hours, when they do little good.

2.  Install time switches, so signs will turn off and on at specific times.  They are affordable at a cost of approximately $200.

3.  Have signs turn off at store closing, or within a reasonable time thereafter.

4.  Keep signs in good state of repair, so they operate efficiently.

5.  Where possible, use reduced-wattage lamps and power-efficient transformers.

6.  Be aware of your obligation to your neighbors and your community to operate signs conservatively and efficiently.

7.  Your sign is one of your most important business assets -- use it wisely.
